First Nutella Cafe – in Chicago

The Nutella Cafe in Chicago, is the first U.S. restaurant from Ferrero, the maker of Nutella. Whether you’re grabbing a quick coffee on the way to work or looking for a new lunch spot, the Nutella Cafe offers an array of all-day dishes designed to take your taste experience to new and delicious heights, all with a side of happy. Bar Fogo’s new offerings were designed with everyday occasions in mind and offer uniquely craveable items found only at Fogo de Chão. A sample of the new small plates include:

 

  • Braised Beef Rib Sliders: Brazilian Xingu beer braised beef is topped with caramelized onions and smoked provolone, served on a brioche bun.
  • Brazilian Empanadas: Flaky pastry filled with seasoned picanha and onions served with Chimichurri aioli for dipping.
  • Garlic Shrimp: Four jumbo shrimp sautéed in garlic butter with sweet peppers and onions, served with passion fruit dipping sauce.

The expanded Bar Fogo menu also features new hand-crafted Caipirinhas and Brazilian inspired cocktails including:

  • Strawberry Hibiscus Caipirinha: Silver cachaça is mixed with hibiscus-infused syrup, fresh strawberries, and lime for a tasty twist on Brazil’s national cocktail.
  • Mango Habanero Caipirinha: Limes, mangoes and habanero peppers are muddled with silver cachaça for a sizzling kick destined to jumpstart any Happy Hour.
  • Brazilian Gentleman: Knob Creek Rye Bourbon, passion fruit, tawny port, Amargo Chuncho bitters and honey blend together seamlessly in this premium cocktail.

Duck Duck Goat Opens in Chicago

Opening day for Stephanie Izard’s Southeast Asian-inspired restaurant, Duck Duck Goat.

The announcement is big news for Izard’s fans, as the chef announced the restaurant back in February 2015. The opening, once again in collaboration with the Boka Restaurant Group, was originally planned for last year. Reservations are now available on OpenTable.

Izard’s restaurant at 857 W. Fulton Market will initially only serve dinner, offering “reasonably authentic Chinese cuisine,” according to a news release, kicking off at 4:30 p.m. daily. This is Izard’s third restaurant following Randolph Row siblings The Girl & The Goat and Little Goat.

As a nod to the giving spirit of the season, guests will receive half-off martinis, cocktails and Kit Kat’s Christmas prix fixe menu in exchange for a canned good donation. The non-perishable food donations will benefit Heartland Health Outreach, an organization that provides care to more than 12,000 needy individuals in the Chicago metropolitan area each year.

Chef JoAnn Witherell’s Christmas prix fixe menu (outlined below) includes a holiday martini, Kit Kat salad, herb-marinated roasted turkey breast, traditional stuffing, mashed potatoes, green beans, cranberry and pineapple relish, and pumpkin pie tart for only $25 with canned good donation ($49.95 without donation). Kit Kat’s regular dinner menu will also be available.

Kit Kat Lounge and Supper Club will hold an over-the-top “Glitz and Glam Gala” this New Year’s Eve. The fabulous affair will feature a four course prix fixe menu, martinis and live entertainment. Diva Kinley Preston will captivate dining guests with intermittent performances as Lady Gaga, Madonna, Katy Perry, Britney Spears, P!NK and more.

Chef JoAnn Witherell’s modern American supper club menu features the choice of starter, salad, entree and dessert. The menu, outlined below, includes two martinis, champagne toast and party favors for $65 per person (7 p.m. seating) and $85 per person (10 p.m. seating).

James Beard Awards in Chicago

Foodies Rejoice. The 2015 James Beard Awards Come to Chicago #GotBuzz

 

For the first time in its 25 year history, the James Beard Awards, hosted by Alton Brown, are being held outside of New York. Chicago is the host city for the coveted May 4 event taking place at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Tickets are $500 for the general public and $450 for James Beard Foundation members.

For those unfamiliar with the awards, the James Beard Awards are to the restaurant industry as the Oscars are to the film industry.

Below are the finalists for the 2015 Restaurant and Chef Award categories, from Outstanding Restaurant to Rising Star Chef of the Year. Winners will be announced on May 4, 2015.

Richard Melman of Lettuce Entertain You Enterprises will receive the 2015 James Beard Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award.

Annual Holiday Gala Benefit for the AIDS Foundation of Chicago

 

Indulge in a night of sweet and savory treats at the 13th annual World of Chocolate winter gala on Thursday, Dec. 4, presented by the AIDS Foundation of Chicago (AFC) returning again this year at the historic Chicago Union Station. Arouse your senses with tasty morsels from 30 of Chicago’s finest chocolatiers, chefs and caterers.

 

AFC hosts this one-of-a-kind gala to commemorate World AIDS Day and celebrate the progress the HIV/AIDS community has made in ending the epidemic. This is one of my favorite events of the year and the perfect way to kick off the holiday season!

From traditional truffles and white chocolate ganache to more savory delicacies like chicken in a chocolate mole sauce, guests will delight their taste buds with a wide array of chocolate-infused creations amid stylish decor. Celebrity judges will crown the night’s best creations. Attendees will also be treated to a light buffet, specialty cocktails, a raffle and punchboard with lavish prizes and music.

Funds raised through World of Chocolate support AFC’s policy, public education and community care programs.

 

World AIDS Day, observed on Dec. 1, is a worldwide effort to increase public awareness about the epidemic. It encourages support and programming to prevent the spread of HIV. The movement originated in 1988, when an international summit of health leaders called for a greater exchange of information on HIV/AIDS in every country around the globe.
